Mount Airy’s 15 Beans coffees in cooperation with Habitat for Humanity is brewing up a way to pay it forward with Habitat Day scheduled for Saturday.

The effort is a first between Habitat and the new business and is modeled after similar efforts by many local restaurants and the organization held previously. Greater Mount Airy Area Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Lynn Wilkes said 15 Beans will donate 10 percent of all sales on Saturday between the hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to directly support Habitat’s mission.

Douglas Martin, owner of 15 beans, said Habitat Day is a way for the business to give back to a community which has welcomed the business to the city.

The business is located at 717 W. Independence Blvd. in the parking lot of Lowes Foods. He said the business basically offers a variety of espresso-based drinks, mochas, lattes, teas and also includes a selection of regular coffees with flavored creamers.

Martin said speciality drinks the firm include Snickers, Candy Apple, Almond Joy and Cinnabun flavors. He said he was surprised home many Mount Airy customers like iced coffees.

“A lot of the drinks we do are flavored like a milkshake with a coffee taste,” said Martin. “In winter we do hot apple cider, hot chocolate and Russian tea. We have a chef that puts together our Russian tea mixture.”
