The Lady Greyhounds improved their record to 5-1 overall and are undefeated in the conference 2-0 after beating the West Stokes Wildcats at home Friday.

The Hounds ended with a score of 43-24 against the Cats, and the scoring effort for the Hounds was led by Kristina Rumplasch scoring a game high 28 points.

The Wildcats led 10- 9 at the end of the first quarter, and Rumplasch scored seven and Malaya Johnson had two Greyhound points against the Wildcats. Wildcat Mikayla Bozman hit two at the post to get the first points of the game.

The Lady Hounds made a comeback during the second quarter and led 20-15 at halftime. The 11 points scored against the Lady Wildcats’ five points during the second quarter were contributed by Erin March with four points, Kristina Rumplasch, four points, Malaya Johnson, two points, and Maddison Hawks made one.

The Hounds contributed eight more points in a team effort to the Wildcats’ five in the third quarter. By the end of the quarter, Rumplasch had added five more to her first half total for a total of 16 for the game so far. Jordan Badgett pitched in two and Morgan Hawks sank one free throw.

At the end of the third quarter, the Lady Hounds had the biggest lead of the game so far with a score of 28-20.

In the fourth quarter, Rumplasch went on yet another run scoring 12 more to lead in scoring and the high of another quarter. The Hounds scored 15 points total in the fourth, and in addition to Rumplasch’s 12, Jordan Badgett added two and Maddison Hawks sank one for the final score of 43-24.

Head Coach Shane Slate said, “We did not play particularly well in first, second or third quarter, but in the fourth quarter, we got easier baskets and took care of the ball a little better.”

Slate said he was pleased with the defensive effort of the Lady Hounds Friday.

“As a team we were solid in defense, did not have any breakdowns and that was a key,” Slate said.

The team high scorer for the Wildcats was Mikala Bozman who had 12 points.
