PILOT MOUNTAIN — The East Surry girls basketball team pulled out a skirmish win Tuesday night against the West Stokes Wildcats after coming from behind several times.

The final score after a back and forth game was Cardinals 57-48, and Gabi Jessup was the high scorer for the Cardinals, sinking 19 points total.

The second leading scorer was Sydney Moseley with 18 points; Keri Fulp 12; Lauren Thompson 3; Laken Bowman 2; Sydney Marion 1; and Karli Fulp 2.

The Cards kept the turnovers to five in the second half, and Cardinals Head Coach Keith Gunter said that he was pleased with adjustments made at the half.

The Cards were down by six when they went in at halftime with a score of 29-23 Wildcats.

Anderson said Gabi Jessup was a catalyst in turning the game around against the Cats and making a jump shot as the buzzer was going off.

The play of the game put the team ahead 34-33 after being behind during the third quarter.

Jessup later hit another three-pointer during the last three minutes of the third and pushed the score up 37-33.

Gunter said the Cards had six steals and 12 assists against the Wildcats.

“We did not rebound well in the first half but did a much better job in the second,” he said.

The game high total was earned by Wildcat Mikala Bozman, scoring 21.

Gunter said he was especially pleased by top scorers Jessup and Sydney Moseley’s performance in the second half of the game, and overall he was happier with the team’s performance in the last half of the game.

“In the second half, we had to create layouts and get up court quicker,” Gunter said. Gabi Jessup hit three three-pointers and Moseley hit four three-pointers. Moseley hit her three-pointers in the first half and in the second half scored 14 points.

Gunter said the team had to answer defensively to Bozman, and had to change defense philosophy, they switched to zone in the last minutes of game.
