WALKERTOWN — The Surry Runnin’ Patriot girls picked up their defensive intensity and earned another win on the road against Gospel Light on Monday bringing their record to 12-2.
The Patriots won by a score of 44-19.
“We played hard and we played smart,” said Head Coach Todd Hill.
Last week, Hill said he would expect the team to work hard to commit less fouls and handle the ball well.
Hill said the team achieved that goal Monday against Gospel Light.
The coach honed in on a span of time during the last half of the game in which his goal the week before was met, he said.
“We had a good stretch of about six to eight minutes in which the girls moved their feet and did not reach out (commit fouls),” said Hill.
Hill said the team worked hard to force turnovers on Monday and pulled in a team total of 20 steals. Jessica Boyd scored the game high of five points. Joye Harrison and Sydney Bedsaul each contributed four as second highest in the statistic.
Harrison had the game high in rebounds recording 10 and contributed four assists.
The Runnin’ Patriots’ scorers were: Kaylee Paris, 10; Jessica Boyd, 9; Joye Harrison, 8; Sydney Bedsaul, 7; Camille Fishel, 6; Ashley Marshall, 2; and Emily Marshall, 2.
Hill said the team will face one of the toughest teams in the state next in Cabarrus, a team Hill said he expects to finish in the top four.
The Surry Runnin’ Patriots will play Cabarrus away on Friday.
