MOUNT AIRY — Mrs. Gladys Hamlin Hawks died at Central Continuing Care on Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, at 11:20 a.m. She was 96 years old. She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Richard Hamlin; second husband, Homer Hawks; one son, Curtis Dale Hamlin; and granddaughter, Lori Nell Smith. She is survived by two daughters, Opal H. Hardy and Callie H. Smith of Siloam; son, Cleve Hamlin of Mount Airy; and two half sisters, Lavern Snow and Dorothy Mitchell of Dobson. Also surviving are eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church. Funeral service will be Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Moody-Davis Funeral Home of Dobson. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The service will be conducted by Dr. Bobby Lewis and Dr. Craig Hamlin. Interment will be in Salem Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Salem Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or Mountain Valley Hospice.
