CANA, Va. — Mr. Grover Monroe Phillips, 81, of Cana, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born on May 20, 1931, in Surry County to the late William Idle and Addie Lee Phillips. Mr. Phillips was a retired lieutenant from Mount Airy Police Department after 30 years and was a member of Rescue Baptist Church. Mr. Phillips is survived by two sons, Randy Dwayne (Denise) Phillips of Mount Airy and Tracy Phillips of Cana; one grandchild; brothers, Ebbie Phillips, James Phillips, Troy Phillips, Lonnie (Shirley) Phillips and Paul (Glenda) Phillips; and sisters, Peggy Phillps (Bill) Lawrence and Eloise Phillips Wall. Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Sanford Phillips, Harvey Phillips; and sister, Essie Phillips Norman. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Cox-Needham Chapel with the Rev. Eddie Phillips officiating. Interment will follow at Rescue Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors given by Mount Airy VFW Post 2019. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service. One of the finest men that I have ever met. I had the priveledge to get to know him and his family over the last 15 years, Grover loved his country, county and most importantly his family and friends. Rest in Peace Grover.
