A Mount Airy man apparently was looking to rob a woman at a city ATM location using a stun gun — but instead ended up with a broken leg and an arrest on a felony charge.

Amy Scott Balthis of Pilot Mountain is thought to have caused that injury when driving off in an attempt to get away from the suspect during the Monday night incident, according to Mount Airy Police Department reports.

It occurred at an ATM station in the parking lot of Wells Fargo Bank at 554 N. Main St.

Officers who responded soon after found Victor Charlie Ceasar at the scene with a broken leg. Ceasar, 44, of 611 S. South St., has been charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and was confined in the Surry County Jail under a $25,000 secured bond.

The attempted robbery occurred shortly before 10 p.m. Monday as Balthis, driving a 2000 Toyota Avalon passenger car, arrived at Wells Fargo and was sitting inside the car preparing for a transaction at the ATM. She is associated with Head to Toe, a business on West Lebanon Street.

Police say the victim was approached by the suspect, who was wearing a bandanna over his nose and mouth. She advised that he attempted to gain entry to the car while holding the stun gun. Balthis, in an effort to flee from the suspect, drove away and caused his injury. She was not hurt.

Also found at the scene were the bandanna and stun gun, investigators say.

Ceasar was transported by the Surry County EMS to Northern Hospital of Surry County, where he was treated for the broken leg and released into the custody of officers. He then was transported to the police station to be processed and charged, before being incarcerated in Dobson.

The suspect is facing a Dec. 5 appearance in Surry District Court.

Its just another one we are having to pay for, I hope he takes this as a warning that he might not be so lucky the next time. She done what she had to do to stay alive and protect herself, kuddos to her. I hope he takes this as a eye opening experience and he might rethink the life he is leading.

This shows Mt.Airy news will do whatever it takes to have a story, even if it means putting someone in danger. 3 different news reports went out on this incident you were the only one to use the victims personal information! Shame on you for exploiting her business. I pray that this never happens to the person who wrote this article, and that you never have to feel the insecure ness a victim feels, but u took any secure ness she had left when you published this. So much for witness protection when MT AIRY NEWS is on the case to use someone's tragedy for your personal gain. We our a community that should stick together and protect one another from crime not put one in harms way! As for the robber, well lets just say he didn't get no where near what he deserved, to act so cowardly to try and take someones money who works to make a living.

What an IDIOT !!! Obviously, he got more than he bargained for. You'd think a 44-year old would know better. What is it the ten commandments say about stealing? Hmmmmm.
