Greyhounds Champ Reynolds and Steven Krause, as well as Golden Eagles Jarrod Cave and Shane Johnson, were named to the All-Conference squad.
Hiatt quarterbacked the Greyhounds to a 4-8 overall record this past season. The Hounds earned impressive victories against Wilkes Central, Forbush, North Wilkes and Surry Central during the teams’ 2008 campaign. North Surry suffered a 32-14 loss to Mount Pleasant in the first round of state playoff action.
Boyles quarterbacked his Eagles team to a 2-9 overall record. Despite missing the state playoffs, the Eagles scored victories over North Wilkes and Forbush during a two-game winning streak.
The Eagles beat the Vikings 18-6 during a driving October rainstorm. There other victory, against the Falcons, was just as impressive. Surry Central outlasted Forbush 53-45 in what was the team’s highest scoring game of the season.
Earning Offensive Player of the Year for 2008 was Starmount’s Rashaun Gaither. The Rams’ Matthew Walker was named Defensive Player of the Year. Coach of the Year went to Starmount’s Scott Johnson.
Other players to be named to the All-Conference team are Ashe County’s Zach Caffey, Buster Phillips, Daniel Waln, Grayson Wells and Tatum Lemly, Forbush’s Jonathan Hauser, North Wilkes’ Alan Alva, Starmount’s Jake Barr, Jonathan Cooper, Caleb Pardue and Gabriel Valdez Jr., and Wilkes Central’s Vincent Beam, Landon Freeman, Xavier Hill and Leo Guevera.
Surry County players earning Honorable Mention were North Surry’s Brett Doss, Devin McKeithen, Michael Wickline, John Hughes, Triston Kyle, Joston Phipps and Cody Palmer. Surry Central’s Alexander Sawyers, Dave Wilmoth, Wade Dawson, Jon Newton and Casey Felts also earned Honorable Mention.
Other Mountain Valley players receiving Honorable Mention were Ashe County’s Jeren Holman, Tavin Holman, Jake Brown, Seth Cox, Aaron Scott, Alex Roborchick and Richie Absher, Forbush’s Mason Branon, Josh Howard, D.J. Cave, Cody Evans, Devin Sparks, Brett Baity, Chad Faircloth and Ryan Doss, North Wilkes’ Greg Baugess, Patrick Anderson, Mike Prouty, Keith Royal and Nathaniel Sturgill, Starmount’s Israel Murphy, Tyler Boucom, Keith Bryant, Charles Carston, Jerome Gadberry, Antonio McClelland, Caleb Pardue, Andy Benesh, Roddie Bridges and Martin Hague, and Wayne McCracken, and Wilkes Central’s Brent Kelly, Adam Parker and Dustin Walsh.
