The Surry Arts Council has a full schedule of Labor Day music in Mount Airy.

On Thursday the Embers will perform. The Embers have been playing a mix of rhythm and blues and heart and soul for decades. As drummer and original band member Bobby Tomlinson said, “beach music is music with a memory.”

On Friday, the Mixed Emotions will perform. Based in the Piedmont area of North Carolina, this beach music band features a five-piece rhythm section and a four-piece horn section.

On Saturday, local band Rainjacket will take the stage. The band is back together and plays beach music and oldies. RainJacket will transport listeners back in time to the days when sock hops were hip and James Dean was king. The band plays oldies from the 50s, 60s, and 70s featuring songs by Buddy Holley, Ricky Nelson, the Temptations, the Beatles, and other artists. As a special treat for this concert, the band will host a costume contest and a hula dance contest.

The entertainment will begin at 7:30 p.m. each evening at the Blackmon Amphitheatre (across from the Andy Griffith Playhouse at 218 Rockford Street) Sept. 2, 3, and 4. Tickets are $10 or free on the SAC Season Pass. Children 12 and under are free. Tickets can be purchased at the gate. For more information, visit www.surryarts.org or call the Surry Arts Council at 786-7998.
