To the Editor,

Your editorial Aug. 25, 2010 (asking Cawley to step aside raises questions) was on the mark. I would think that Mr. Cawley should be commended for his insight into the value of such an endeavor. At a time when so many people are out of work this is the last thing we should spend tax money on. It is ridiculous to spend money for something that is so speculative. If anyone needs to step aside I believe it should be Mr. Harris. Given his remark about the negative vote, it is hard to believe that Mr. Harris was not retaliating against Mr. Cawley.

A sports complex is not a necessity and not even a good investment. There are so many other projects that would be nice to have but we have to ask, can we really afford them now? What is necessary is to get jobs for those out of work and lower taxes, not raise them again.

I am deeply disappointed in Mayor Cochran for not have the leadership to put this in perspective.

People of this city must stand up and demand some fiscal responsibility.
