Submissions to the Church Calendar need to be in writing and arrive or be brought in to The Mount Airy News office before 5 p.m. Tuesday in order to be published in Friday’s issue. Be sure to include the full name and address of the church; the time, day and date of the event; and a contact phone number in case our staff has any questions. Benefits and Fundraisers

n Living Water Baptist Church, on the corner of Carroll Street and 125 Starlight Road, is having a yard sale Aug. 7. There will be hot dogs and hamburgers for sale. All proceeds will go toward helping with missions. If there is rain, the sale will be cancelled. For more information, call 786-4978.

n Dobson United Methodist Church, 204 S. Main Street, will have a rummage and bake sale on Aug. 12 and 13 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with lots of good stuff and delicious bakery items for sale.

n Laurel Bluff Baptist Church will host a car wash on Aug. 14 at Sonic Drive-In on Independence Blvd. in Mount Airy from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Proceeds will go to the building fund to add restrooms to the church.

n The Second Annual Benefit for Flat Top Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Trust Fund will be held on Aug. 28 at Beulah Ruritan Club Building from 4 p.m. until. There will be a pinto and bean supper with pintos, slaw, cornbread, drinks and dessert. A Womanless Beauty Pageant will be held with entertainment by the Carolina Travelers. There will also be a bake sale, $100 of gas, several raffle drawings, 50/50 drawing and door prizes. All proceeds and donations will go to Flat Top Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Trust Fund. Everyone is welcome.

n Epworth United Methodist Church, Cana, Va., will have a yard sale on Aug. 28 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Ham biscuits and sausage biscuits will be sold. Proceeds will go to the building fund.

n Albion Community Church, Westfield, will have a huge yard sale on Sept. 3 and 4, Labor Day weekend, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Clothing, household items, pictures and books will all be sold. Proceeds go to keeping up the cemetery.

n Mallalieu-Jones United Methodist Church, 231 N. South St., Mount Airy, will be holding a fish-fry fundraiser. The cost is $4 for a fish sandwich and a drink. This fundraiser will be held every Friday.

Special Services

n Pine Ridge Baptist Church is having homecoming on Aug. 8 at 10 a.m. with a special singing and preaching.

n Cruise-N-4-Christ will be held Aug. 14 with a gospel singing from noon to 6 p.m. Look for the signs in Lowgap. Bring a lawn chair and a friend. Admission is free. A love offering will be taken for the Joy Ranch Christian Home for Children. There will also be concessions. The Anchormen Quartet will appear from 2 to 4 p.m. The singing will take place rain or shine.

n The Rev. John H. Cornelius, pastor of Zion Baptist Missionary Church, will be delivering the afternoon sermon on Aug. 15, the annual Deaconess Board of St. Mark Baptist Church in Winston-Salem.

n Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 97 Oak Grove Trail, Cana, Va., will have revival with the Rev. Isreal Gwyn on from Aug. 15 through 18 at 7:30 p.m. The Rev. Roland McCraw will bring the message. There will also be a special singing. Homecoming day will be Aug. 22. For more information, call (276) 755-3359.

n Gospel Baptist Church, Bob Lynch Road in Pilot Mountain, will have its 30th annual homecoming on Aug. 15 at the 11 a.m. worship service. Bring a covered dish. There will be a special singing by the Nunn Brothers.

n Patrick County Waterwheel Revival will be held at Patrick County High School Auditorium in Stuart, Va., on Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. with speaker the Rev. Joyce Green with special music by the guest speaker and family.

n Solid Rock Baptist Church, 680 Fish Lake Road, Cana, Va., will have revival with Pastor Roy Quesenberry on Aug. 26 and 27 at 7:30 p.m. Bro. Don Collins will bring the message. Vacation Bible School

n Mount View Pentecostal Holiness Church, 497 Hatcher’s Chapel Road, Claudville, Va., will have a one day Vacation Bible School on Aug. 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Classes will be for beginners to adults. Lunch will be served. For more information, call 789-5608.

n St. Andrew Lutheran, 1403 Fancy Gap Road, will be having Vacation Bible School Aug. 9-13 from 6 to 8 p.m. each night. There will be classes for both children and adults. Snacks will be served for four nights and on the fifth night there will be a light supper for all.

Special Music

n Vessell of Clay will be singing at Welcome Baptist Church, Welcome Baptist Church Road, at 6 p.m. on Aug. 8. Everyone is invited. Refreshments will follow in the fellowship hall after the service.

n Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, 7220 W. Pine St., Lowgap, will have a gospel singing on Aug. 8 at 6:30 p.m. with Naomi and the Segos. Come celebrate 50 years of Naomi’s southern gospel music. A free will offering will be taken.

n The will be a gospel singing and cruise-in on Aug. 14 from noon to 6 p.m. at Charity Baptist Church in Lowgap. Anchormen, the Kinders and the Stowers will be performing. Admission is free and a love offeing will be taken. Food and drinks will be available. The event will take place rain or shine. Proceeds will benefit Joy Ranch Childrens Home. n Northside Baptist Church on Fowler Road in Mount Airy will have a gospel singing on Aug. 15 at 6 p.m. For more information, call Pastor Dean Eaton at 786-8772.

n Woodville Baptist Church, 5108 Westfield Road, Mount Airy, will be having a singing on Aug. 22 at 6 p.m. Rich In Tradition will be performing. A love offering will be taken. Refreshments will follow in the fellowship hall.

Upcoming Events

n Free family movie night will be held at First Church of the Brethren, 161 Welch Road, on Aug. 6 at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome. Refreshments will be served.

n Bannertown Baptist Church will have a bloodmobile on Aug. 8 from 1 to 5:30 p.m. All blood types are needed. Everyone is welcome. For more information, call 786-5407 or 789-2505.

n St. Andrew Lutheran will be celebrating its anniversary on Aug. 15 at the 9 a.m. service with a covered dish picnic to follow at Groundhog Mountain Picnic Area on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Members past and present are invited to attend.

Miscellaneous

n King’s Kids will have fun, learning Scripture and crafts every Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church. There will be classes for all ages, children through adults. For more information, call the church at 374-3250.

n Reformers Unanimous Addiction Recovery program will begin weekly sessions at Temple Baptist Church, 3615 Rockford St., Mount Airy. Anyone with an addiction, stubborn habit or hangup is encouraged to attend. Childcare is provided and refreshments will be served. n Grace Moravian Church will be holding Bible study each week on Sunday from 6 to 7 p.m. with Pastor Tony Hayworth.

n Trinity Episcopal Church, 472 N. Main St., Mount Airy, is holding Inquirer’s Classes on Wednesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to come and learn about church, its theology, its history and its ministry in the world. n Calvary Baptist Church has opened a clothes closet ministry on Wednesdays from 6 to 7:30 p.m. If someone is in need of clothes at other times, call the church office at 786-4778.

n Livingwater Baptist Church is looking for laborers to work in God’s vineyards. Come worship and labor where God’s fields are white into harvest. For more information, call Pastor Benny Faw at 719-6500 or 429-8712.

n The First Baptist Church Feeding Friends Soup Kitchen provides a free hot meal to families and friends in need every Thursday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The church is between Elm and Galloway streets at 714 N. Main St. Parking is available behind First Baptist off Arch Street. The feeding friends dinner is served in the fellowship hall in the building closest to downtown, with signs available to guide visitors.

n A free “soup kitchen” is available on the last Thursday of each month in the Piney Grove Baptist Church fellowship hall from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come as they are with no strings attached. The church is at 278 Piney Grove Road, which can be reached at 356-4196.

n Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:15 p.m. radio station 8.80 a.m. will have radio ministry with Pastor Danny Poindexter from the Lighthouse Baptist Church.
