STUART, Va. — A Patrick County man accused of burglarizing the home of an elderly Ararat resident was taken into custody Tuesday, according to Sheriff Dan Smith.

Joseph Ray “Joey” Walton, 21, of 595 Pedigo Ridge Road, was arrested at 5 p.m., a press release from the Patrick County Sheriff’s Office states.

The sheriff could not be reached Tuesday night regarding details of the arrest.

Walton, who is charged with felony breaking and entering of an occupied dwelling at nighttime and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, had been sought by authorities since Thursday.

Investigators received information then which led to Walton being linked to the Aug. 2 burglary at the residence of an 89-year-old woman in Ararat, along with a 14-year-old juvenile.

Entry was gained to the unidentified woman’s home through a kitchen window and drawers and her purse were rifled through while the victim was in her bedroom. No injuries were reported during the latest in a series of home invasions in the Ararat area since last fall.

Walton was released on a $4,000 bond after appearing before a magistrate. The juvenile has been released by a juvenile and domestic-relations judge into the custody of his mother.

Both suspects are awaiting preliminary court hearings.
