This Saturday the 2nd Saturdays program will conclude with a quilt show and fabric and fiber arts festival at Horne Creek Living Historical Farm.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the state historic site in conjunction with the 2nd Saturdays program sponsored by the N.C. Department of Cultural Resources. Artisans and vendors will be stationed at Horne Creek to demonstrate their crafts, sell various items, and teach visitors about the history of fabrics and textiles in North Carolina. Demonstrations will include quilting, sewing, bobbin lace, tatting, and weaving.

While people can purchase new items at the festival, information also will be available on how to take care of old textile items. In addition, 15 to 20 quilts will be on display at the visitor center at Horne Creek in celebration of North Carolina quilting history.

The 2nd Saturdays events have been taking place at 37 state historic sites from June to August. The purpose of the program is to showcase local history and art. Horne Creek held its second annual Heritage Day Festival on June 12 as part of the 2nd Saturdays program. On July 10, the farm held an event titled “Folkways, Fried Pies, and Fiddle Tunes.” The festival this Saturday is the final 2nd Saturdays event. All three events have been free and open to the public.
