CANA, Va. — An early morning fire burned a house to the ground in Cana on Saturday. Officials say no one was in the structure at the time of the fire.
Capt. Chad Hiatt with Cana Volunteer Fire Department said his station received the call around 8:30 a.m. on Saturday to respond to a structure fire on Park View Drive. He said the fire station is not far from the residence and quickly responded to the call, but by the time firefighters got there, the house was a total loss.
“It was already pretty much burnt to the ground,” said Hiatt.
He estimates that the house had been burning for around 45 minutes to an hour before they got there. Franklin Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene.
Hiatt said the structure was a brick house that may have been under construction. He was not sure if anyone was residing at the house before the fire.
Officers came to investigate the cause of the fire. Hiatt said the cause is not known at this time.
