n The Mount Airy Police Department is investigating the theft of commercial air-conditioning units valued at thousands of dollars, which were reported stolen from an empty building under foreclosure.

Personnel of First Citizens Bank on North Main Street, which is listed as the victim, reported the crime Friday. The commercial-grade central air-conditioning units, valued altogether at $18,000, were taken from outside the MRI building on East Independence Boulevard after their electrical and coolant lines were cut. Although the theft was reported Friday, it is believed to have occurred sometime in the past three months.

Zachary Lee Hill of Byerly Street, Brittany Darlene Tate of Ark Trail and Ashley Nicole Tate, a Durham Street resident, told police that they were involved in a dispute with three unknown males while walking on the trail. Hill allegedly was struck with a fist and threats were made against all three victims while a knife was displayed. The assailants left before police arrived and the case is listed as inactive, with no leads to pursue at this time.

Sehen is accused of using a cap from a fire hydrant to break a window and gain entry to Main-Oak Emporium in downtown Mount Airy, with $500 in damage occurring to the tempered-glass window. A secured bond of $25,000 was set in the case, for which Sehen is scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on Sept. 8.

n Crimes involving the forgery and uttering of checks were reported on July 13 by personnel of Southern Community Bank on Independence Boulevard, which is listed as the victim. The matter involves a known individual issuing checks to herself and then cashing them at the bank, apparently on multiple occasions during June. The number of checks and the sums involved were not available. No arrest had been made at last report.

n A break-in and larceny were reported on July 13 at Independence Amoco on Independence Boulevard.
