MOUNT AIRY — Mrs. Nancy Ella Holder Cockerham, 90, of 145 Lafayette Trail, Mount Airy, widow of Mr. Ronald Lafayette Cockerham, passed away Monday, July 5, 2010, at Central Continuing Care. She was born June 12, 1920, in Surry County to the late Webb and Bessie Vaughn Holder. She was a member of Mulberry Primitive Baptist Church and was a homemaker and farmer. Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Louise and Willie Wilson of Elk Creek, Va., and Diane Dixon of Thomasville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Alma Jean Cockerham of Stuart, Va., and Junior and Ann Cockerham of Mount Airy; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three “special nieces,” Joan Terro of Richmond, Va., Shirley Jones of Mount Airy and Irene Stanley of Pikeville, Ky.; and a “special nephew,” Edward Holder of Dobson. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Cockerham was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Mike Dixon; two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Margie Lawson, Maggie Lawson and Ida Holder; and three brothers, Roy Holder, Paul Holder and Odoul Holder. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel of Mount Airy conducted by the Rev. Joe Atkins. Burial will follow in the Flat Top Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. Tuesday until time of the service at Moody Funeral Home.
