n A Mount Airy man was arrested Monday after allegedly cursing dispatchers at the county communications center, according to city police department reports. Devin Ray Moncus, 26, of 1240 Newsome St., is charged with improper use of the 911 system, a misdemeanor.

Moncus asked to use the telephone at Waffle House on U.S. 601 and called 911 twice, during which he was belligerent with dispatchers and cursed and slammed the phone down on them when asked to state the nature of his emergency, arrest records show. He was confined in the Surry County Jail in lieu of a $2,000 secured bond and is to appear in District Court on Aug. 12.

n Two people were arrested Sunday on felony break-in offenses involving a motor vehicle. Linda Gail Loman, 33, and Ronald Charles Cathey, 27, both of 118 Korner St., are each charged in warrants filed Friday with breaking and entering of a motor vehicle and larceny, both felonies. They are charged in the theft of electronic equipment valued at more than $2,400 from a vehicle owned by Derrick Chaze Haynes of Clifton Lane, which was reported on June 23.

Loman also was served with an outstanding warrant on a felony violation of possession of stolen property issued last August. Loman and Cathey were each jailed under a $10,000 secured bond and are scheduled to be in Surry District Court on Aug. 12.

n Michael Allen Griffith, 27, of 207 E. Lebanon St., is facing a felony violation of larceny of a motor vehicle from August 2004. Police encountered the man during a welfare check Saturday at Sobe’s Bar and Grill on North South Street and discovered there was an outstanding warrant for him from Jonesville on the auto-theft charge. Griffith is free on a written promise to appear in Surry District Court on Aug. 26.

n Justin Edward Hill, 21, of 679 Hills Presbyterian Church Road, Pilot Mountain, is accused of concealment of merchandise in connection with a Saturday incident at Wal-Mart involving a loss of nearly $250. Hill was jailed in lieu of a $500 secured bond and is facing a July 30 court appearance.

n Shianna Jane Bowling, 27, of 148 Gemstone Lane, was arrested last Friday on felony charges of larceny of a motor vehicle and possession of a stolen vehicle. The case stems from the Friday night theft of a 2003 Chevrolet S-10 pickup owned by Wade Keith Ayers of Lovers Lane. The unsecured vehicle was removed from Hardee’s on Rockford Street, where Ayers is employed. The suspect was located on Greenhill Road and jailed in Dobson under a $5,000 secured bond, with her District Court date set for July 27.

n Tommy Gray Branch, a Willow Street resident, reported the theft of a debit card last Friday which later was used for transactions at local businesses. The card was stolen by an unknown individual at East Coast Wings, who made fuel purchases at WilcoHess on Rockford Street and an Exxon outlet on Holly Springs Road. The total involved had not been determined when the report was made. The card also was used for another transaction at Redbox DVD Rentals on Rockford Street of around $20. The case remains open for further investigation.

n A larceny was discovered last Friday at the Lowe and Williams law office at 708 S. Main St., where two copper downspouts were removed from the side of the building. No value was listed for the stolen property. The case remains open for further investigation.

n Margaret Ann Tyson, 38, of 741 Galax Trail, is facing violations of larceny and assault and battery, according to an arrest report from last Friday. Tyson was served with a warrant on the larceny offense filed on June 15 and a criminal summons on the assault matter which had been issued on June 14. No details were listed regarding the cases, for which Tyson is free on a written promise to appear in Surry District Court on July 16.
