The latest arrest of Todd Emerson Collins Jr., 29, occurred after detectives with the Mount Airy Police Department executed a search warrant at 1255 N. South St., where Collins has maintained a residence and business.
Police obtained the search warrant on Wednesday, with Collins’ arrest announced on Friday.
“Numerous items” were located at the South Street address which reportedly had been stolen during break-ins in the past few weeks. The detectives also recovered three stolen vehicles as a result of the search.
Included was a 2006 Jeep Wrangler reported stolen earlier this month. The vehicle, valued at $20,000 and owned by Gregory Roy High of Dobson, was discovered missing on June 9 from the parking lot of Patterson Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep on North Andy Griffith Parkway.
The other vehicles recovered include a 1987 Honda motorcycle reported stolen from Carroll County, Va., earlier this month and a 2006 Kawasaki motorcycle that was taken in the Kernersville area in September 2007.
Additionally, a quantity of narcotics was located during the search with the assistance of the police department K-9 unit composed of Officer J.W. Cox and the dog “Shadow.” Also aiding the search effort were members of the city police patrol unit and Crisis-Management Team.
Collins initially has been charged with one count each of felonious breaking and entering and felony larceny, along with four counts of possession of stolen property, also felonies. Additional offenses are pending, according to police. The suspect is scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on July 19.
Apparently, Collins was free on bond from a Feb. 26 arrest on a long list of break-in and other charges issued when he was apprehended after a high-speed chase. Those break-in offenses relate to crimes occurring on Russell Road in Surry County and the N.C. Department of Transportation Office on Cadle Ford Road, as well as 89 Service Center in Mount Airy.
The Surry Sheriff’s Office earlier had put out warrants for Collins’ arrest after officers recovered a 1990 Chevrolet in Virginia which he allegedly had stolen from Foothills Ford near Pilot Mountain.
Collins is facing nine violations alone in connection with the chase, which began on South Main Street in Mount Airy and ended with his apprehension near Lovers Lane after a short foot pursuit. He had been jailed in February under a $125,000 secured bond. The cases initiated at that time have yet to be tried in court.
