MOUNT AIRY — Mr. Melvin Alva Webb, 90, of Mount Airy, went to be with his heavenly father on Monday, June 14, 2010, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Webb was born in Carroll County, Va., Aug. 24, 1919, to the late Jessee “Jett” Webb and Emma Adline Largen Webb. Mr. Webb served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, receiving two Purple Hearts. He was a carpenter, enjoyed farming, and a member of Dover Baptist Church. Surviving are two sisters, Jezebel “Belle” and Oscar H. Beck of Woodlawn, Va., and Nelva Ella Ralph of New Port, Wash.; a very special friend, Deborah Creed of Mount Airy; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Mr. Webb was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Gant Webb; three sisters, Velma Webb, Rebecca Webb and Lessie Odessa Webb; and three brothers, Duke Morton Webb, Elvin Elton Webb and Clive Bert Webb. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Dover Baptist Church by the Rev. J. Cecil Hill, with burial to follow in Skyline Memory Gardens with full Military honors conducted by VFW Memorial honor gardens guard post 2019 of Mount Airy and post 9436 of Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1 p.m. until time of the service at the church.
