The Ring family, John, wife Becky and children Tyler, Rachel and Ethan, said they can’t wait to move in.
Joe Dellinger, executive director of the Greater Mount Airy Habitat for Humanity, lead the dedication ceremony yesterday. He said the dedication was scheduled for next Sunday, but since that is Father’s Day, the ceremony was moved up a week. He said the house will be completed by next Sunday for the family to move in.
During the past 30 years, Habitat has built 350,000 homes worldwide.
“We are the eighth largest home builder in the United States and 11th largest worldwide. But out of that 350,000 homes, today we are only concerned with one of them — that’s this one. Today, this house becomes a home,” Dellinger said.
The build officially began on the home April 10.
“I hope that if they live and grow here, work and play, study and worship, this home will leave an imprint on them they can take with them the rest of their lives. I know through working with them, going through all of the struggles and hardships, sweat, frustration and stuff that comes along with this — they have left an imprint on our hearts. And we will take that with us the rest of our lives,” Dellinger said.
Denny Holder read Psalm 127, Chapter 1 during the ceremony.
“The meaning of this scripture is, the value of any house is how one allows the Lord to be the head of the house,” Holder said. “The word of God should be taught in this house to the children that God blesses.”
Paul Eich, chairman of the Habitat board of directors, presented the family with a new Bible.
“We are sure this is not your first Bible and I hope it certainly won’t be your last, but it is a family Bible. It may give you a reason to gather and read as a family. We hope the word of the Lord will be with you as it has been and that this house proves to be a blessing for you as it has for us,” Eich said.
“My family and I would really like to thank God, Habitat, all of the workers for giving us this great opportunity. This will be a new beginning for us,” Ring said.
At the end of the ceremony, John’s brother, Jerry Ring, helped the children plant a pink dogwood in the front yard.
“Without God, none of this is possible and with Him, anything is possible,” Dellinger said.
