Those searching for a job in the medical field might just be in luck as a Health Occupations Job Fair is slated for this Tuesday from 1 to 4 p.m.

Karen McBennett, Goodwill Industries employment specialist with the North Carolina Employment Security Commission, is in charge of the job fair. She said employers will be looking to hire medical transcriptionists, pharmacy technicians, coding/medical technology, health care billing/reimbursement, PCA, CNA I and II, medical office/clerical support and phlebotomists.

The fair will be held at the Workforce Development Center in the Surry County Human Resources Building off U.S. 601 on State Street. The fair is being hosted by Surry Community College. The entrance to the job fair is on the left-hand side of the building.

McBennett said he expects hundreds of applicants to show up for the job fair. She said those who wish to apply for jobs should come in and fill out an application. Employment specialists will be on hand to help those with questions.

“We will have various employers looking to hire those who have graduated from the continuing education health occupations programs from Surry Community College, but the fair is open to everyone,” McBennett said.

Computers will be set up for online applications.

She said there will be a staffing agency out of Winston-Salem that specializes in medical office staffing. A number of home-health agencies also are looking for employees.

“We have Hospice of Forsyth County, Northern Hospice and Hugh Chatham hospital coming to the fair,” she said.

The fair is sponsored Goodwill Industries of Northwest North Carolina, the Workforce Investment Act and Surry County JobLink.
