The Silver Arts Exhibition and a separate event, the Silver Follies (performing arts) and Athletic Awards Show, will each be held at L.H. Jones Auditorium on Jones School Road in Mount Airy.
Admission to both is free and the public is encouraged to attend.
During the arts exhibition, scheduled from 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday, seniors will be showcasing their talents in three different categories.
Heritage Arts includes basket weaving, china painting, wood carving, quilting, tatting and needle lace, crocheting, jewelry and stained glass.
The Literary Arts division will feature essays, poems, short stories and life-experiences works by seniors.
Visual Arts, the third category, includes acrylics, drawing, oil, photography, sculpture and watercolors.
Silver Follies, Awards
The Silver Follies and Athletic Awards Show begins immediately after the arts exhibition, at 5 p.m.
This portion of Thursday’s Senior Games activities will display participants’ talents in comedy/drama, line dancing, vocals, instrumentals and dancing, including both individuals and groups.
Many door prizes will be given away during the show, organizers say.
The athletic awards to be bestowed will recognize achievements during the annual Yadkin Valley Senior Games, which began on May 6 with an opening ceremony at Fisher River Park in Dobson including a torch presentation.
About 140 people, said to be a record number of participants, signed up for various events during the competition that was open to citizens 55 and older in Surry and Yadkin counties. Included were a variety of track and field activities along with tennis, swimming, golf, bowling and others, which were conducted in different venues around the area.
The Yadkin Valley Senior Games is one of about 55 such events held statewide under the sponsorship of the N.C. Division of Aging.
Some of the local athletes will be eligible to compete in the North Carolina Senior Games later this year.
