Celeste Springthorpe-Tsaklis will once again host a summer art camp at the Gallery Group and Art Studio.

At this year’s camp, students will focus on the works of Franz Marc to draw inspiration. The camp is open to all school-age children though there is limited space. The first session will take place June 15-17 and the second from June 22-24 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. each day. Students are welcome to sign up for one or both sessions.

“We’ll be working with bright-colored animals like Franz Marc did,” said Springthorpe-Tsaklis. “It was the beginning of the expressionist movement so it should be fun.”

Throughout the camp, students will paint on different surfaces to create fine art projects which they can then take home. She hopes they will come away from the camp with a different appreciation for color.

“I wanted to introduce students to arbitrary color. Expressionism is part of the impressionist movement when artists showed emotion through lines and color,” said Springthorpe-Tsaklis of the decision to choose Marc, who was famous for painting blue horses or yellow cows. “Last year was a big success so I’m hoping we’ll have as much fun this year.”

The camp costs $60 per child with a discounted rate of $50 for siblings registered at the same time. The camp serves as a fundraiser for the Gallery Group. For more information or to register for the camp, contact the Gallery Group and Art Studio at 786-0057.
