Submissions to the Church Calendar need to be in writing and arrive or be brought in to The Mount Airy News office before 5 p.m. Tuesday in order to be published in Friday’s issue. Be sure to include the full name and address of the church; the time, day and date of the event; and a contact phone number in case our staff has any questions. Benefits and Fundraisers

n There will be a hamburger steak plate benefit held at Franklin Fire Department from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 21. Take out or eat in. On the menu is hamburger steak, slaw, green beans, dessert and drink for $7. Proceeds will go to Canaan Land Children’s Home.

n A yard sale will be held on May 21 and 22 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1102 N. Main Street in Mount Airy to support the Youth Ministry at Calvary Assembly of God Church.

n Faith Baptist Church, South Franklin Road, will have a yard sale, bake sale and car wash on May 22 from 7 a.m. until. Hot dogs will be available at 11 a.m. for $1.25 and drinks for 75 cents. This event will be held rain or shine in the fellowship building behind the church. Proceeds will go to the Senior Adult Class projects.

n God’s Family Temple will have a car wash and fish fry on May 22 at Advance Auto Parts on Highway 89 from 8 a.m. until. Plates are $4, sandwiches are $2.25 and drinks are 50 cents.

n The United Methodist Women will have their semi-annual yard and bake sale on May 22 at the church, Franklin Heights United Methodist Church, 416 Franklin Road. The sale will be held from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the fellowship building rain or shine. Proceeds will go to help the United Methodist Women in their projects.

n St. Paul Church of the Brethren, 64 Short Drive, Cana, Va., will have a ham supper on May 22 from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Adult plates are $7 and childrens are $4. Carry outs will be available. On the menu is ham, green beans, apples, potato salad, roll, dessert and drink. Proceeds will go to church functions.

n An auction will be held at the Church of God of Prophecy, 123 Mahone Street, Mount Airy, on May 22 at 10 a.m. There will also be a car wash and hot dogs will be sold. n Flat Rock Baptist Church Youth will be sponsoring a yard sale on May 22 from 7 a.m. to noon in the fellowship hall. All proceeds will go to the youth group for upcoming events.

n The Siloam Baptist Church Brotherhood will sponsor a 3 person captain’s choice golf tournament at Beaver Creek Golf Course on May 29 with tee time at 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. The entry fee is $25 per person. For more information, call the golf course at 374-5670.

n Mallalieu-Jones United Methodist Church, 231 N. South St., Mount Airy, will be holding a fish-fry fundraiser. The cost is $4 for a fish sandwich and a drink. This fundraiser will be held every Friday.

Special Services

n Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 1266 Union Hill Road, Thurmond, will have revival on May 21 at 7 p.m. The guest speaker will the Pastor Tony Hutson, Middle Tennesse Baptist Church. A special singing will be held with Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Choir on Thursday night and Bear Creek Baptist Church Choir on Friday night. Everyone is invited to attend.

n Family Fellowship Chapel, 2237 McKinney Road, will be having a special Sunday night youth service on May 23 at 6 p.m. Food and activities will follow the service in the gym. For more information, call 783-0221.

n New Life Baptist Church will have a memorial service and homecoming on May 30 at 10 a.m. Everyone is invited.

n Westfield Baptist Church, 6713 Westfield Road, will have Vacation Bible School June 21-25 from 6 to 8:45 p.m. each night for age 3 through 8th grade. A meal will be served to each night. n Vacation Bible School will be held at New Hope Baptist, 818 Prison Camp Road, Dobson, June 27 through July 2 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Dress in western duds for the Saddle Ridge Ranch theme. n A youth concert will be held at Brim’s Grove Church featuring Stone’s Throw on May 22 at 7:30 p.m. Free snacks and drinks will be available. A love offering will be taken for the group.

n The Country Boys will be singing at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church on May 23 at 6 p.m.

n There will be a gospel singing on May 23 at 6 p.m. featuring Pathway at Highland Park Baptist Church. Everyone is welcome.

n Pleasant View Baptist Church, 154 Mount View Drive, Mount Airy, will have its fifth Sunday singing on May 30 at 6 p.m. featuring Bobby Patterson and the Heritage Four from Galax, Va. Refreshments will be served following the service.

n Brush Arbor in Lowgap will have a gospel singing featuring Primitive Quartet from Candler on June 19 at 7 p.m. Bring a chair. Food and refreshments will be available. Admission is free at the gate. A love offering will be taken. For more information, call 352-4346.

n Rocky Ford Christian Church, 12333 Fancy Gap Highway, Cana, Va., will have Youth Alive, a Christian Youth Rally, on May 21 from 7 to 10 p.m. with music, ministry, food and fellowship. The guest speakers will be Trey Moore, George Randall and David Johnson from Skyview Baptist Church.

Miscellaneous

n King’s Kids will have fun, learning Scripture and crafts every Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church. There will be classes for all ages, children through adults. For more information, call the church at 374-3250.

n Reformers Unanimous Addiction Recovery program will begin weekly sessions at Temple Baptist Church, 3615 Rockford St., Mount Airy. Anyone with an addiction, stubborn habit or hangup is encouraged to attend. Childcare is provided and refreshments will be served. n The First Baptist Church Feeding Friends Soup Kitchen provides a free hot meal to families and friends in need every Thursday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The church is between Elm and Galloway streets at 714 N. Main St. Parking is available behind First Baptist off Arch Street. The feeding friends dinner is served in the fellowship hall in the building closest to downtown, with signs available to guide visitors.

n A free “soup kitchen” is available on the last Thursday of each month in the Piney Grove Baptist Church fellowship hall from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come as they are with no strings attached. The church is at 278 Piney Grove Road, which can be reached at 356-4196.
