Branson and Isenhour were encountered while police were performing a security check at Weddle’s Transmission on East Pine Street. They fled the scene, ignoring officers’ commands to stop, but subsequently were apprehended. The two allegedly had removed a car stereo valued at $100 from a vehicle there, also causing $100 in damage. Branson and Isenhour further were linked to a crime at another business on East Pine Street, Marshall Auto Sales, where catalytic converters were cut off five vehicles — a loss put at $1,000.
Each man was confined in the Surry County Jail under a $5,000 secured bond and is to appear in District Court on July 6.
n Morgan Cortese Duncan, 21, of 1011 Old Rockford St., was jailed under a $75,000 secured bond Saturday on charges of attempted burglary, a felony, and second-degree trespassing. The case stems from an incident reported at the residence of Samantha Marie Evans on Granite Road involving two suspects, one who allegedly attempted to break into the home by kicking a door while the other pointed a shotgun at the residence. Only one arrest apparently has occurred, however, with Duncan scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on June 2.
n A Winston-Salem man was arrested Wednesday on charges of assault on a government officer, resisting a public officer and being intoxicated and disruptive. Police encountered Paul David Grainger, 21, during a suspicious-person investigation at WilcoHess on Rockford Street. Grainger allegedly assaulted Officer T.W. Crouch while being taken into custody. He was confined in the Surry County Jail in lieu of a $1,000 secured bond and is to be in court on July 22. Crouch was not injured.
n Surry County Farm Bureau on Worth Street was the victim of a larceny reported Tuesday. A heat pump, valued at $3,000, was removed from an air-conditioning unit at the rear of the business. The case remains open for investigation.
