“Wii Wednesdays” have sign-ups to play beginning at 3:30 p.m. each Wednesday. In order to play the Wii games, players will have to have a library card in good standing.

Game Night continues on Thursday nights, beginning at 6 p.m. The library provides cards and board games for those who would like to play. New players are always welcome!

Join us for Book Chats. Book Chats is an informal book club, where we gather to discuss books that everyone is currently reading. These discussions are open to the public, and are free of charge. Join us for our next meeting on May 24 at 1 p.m. We look forward to seeing you!

Join our movie-based book club, Picture Books. Each month we’ll each read a book that was adapted into a movie, then we gather together to watch the movie, and afterwards compare the two. The book and movie for May is “Julie and Julia” by Julie Powell. We’ll watch the movie on May 11 at 6 p.m. The book club books are provided by the library, and the movie is free of charge. Open for ages teen to adult.

The Community Book Club will always meet on the fourth Thursday night each month. Join us on May 27 at 7 p.m.

One on One is a new program at the library, where we gather to discuss the history of Mount Airy and Surry County. The discussion is led by John Edwards. We meet next on May 4, class begins at 6 p.m.

On May 10, we invite students in grades K-2 to come to the library at 3:30 p.m., and participate in a Fairytale Character coloring activity. We will display the artwork in the library to celebrate Children’s Book Week. Free!

On May 11, the library’s own teen theater group, the Dewey Decimal Players, will present the play “Nearly Grimm Tales” at 3:30 p.m. The production is in honor of the library’s celebration of Children’s Book Week. The play is open to the public, and will be free of charge.

Also during Children’s Book Week, we have children’s author Sarah Sullivan coming on May 13 to conduct a writing workshop for children, grades 3-5. The workshop will take place after school at 3:30 p.m. Call the library to register your child for the workshop.

Come hear author Larry Morgan when he visits the library on May 18 at 6:30 p.m. He will be discussing his book “Strange Life: Struggling with the Mysteries of OCD.” Free to the public.

Pre-school Story Hours happen weekly. Library assistant Jenny Wright leads the Wednesday story times, with the 2-year-olds at 9:30 a.m., and the 3-year-olds at 10:30 a.m. Assistant Librarian Tommie Smith leads the 4- and 5-year-olds at 10:30 a.m. These events are free, and open to the public.
