Benefits and Fundraisers

n A benefit gospel singing will be held for Movita Utt on Saturday at 6 p.m. at St. Paul School in the gym, 231 Flower Gap Road, Cana, Va. The singing will feature Cross Road Band, The Willing Vessels, Rich In Tradition and The Bledsoes. Tickets are $10 for adults, children 6 to 12 are $5 and younger than 6 are free. Tickets are available at Gullions in Mount Airy, Winston-Salem and Statesville and St. Paul School. n New Century Church will be hosting a yard sale to raise money for its ministry on Saturday at 8 a.m. Donations will be accepted for the yard sale. Anyone interested in donating items call email wendykrause125@hotmail.com or visit www.newcenturychurch-ma.com.

n New Century Church is having a yard sale for Children’s Ministry on Saturday at 8 a.m.

n The youth of Mountain View Baptist Church will hold a car wash at Sonic on Independence Boulevard in Mount Airy on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. All donations will benefit the youth’s summer missions camps. For more information, call Cyndi Vipperman at 789-7446 or 648-6300.

n Grace Moravian Church will have a youth car wash fundraiser on Saturday in the church parking lot across Wrenn Avenue. All proceeds will go towards their mission trip to Wilmington in June to help those less fortunate. For more information, call the church office at 786-5627 on weekdays.

n Level Cross United Methodist Church will be having at port-a-pit chicken dinner by Koala-T Katering on Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tickets are $8 and plates include chicken, baked beans, slaw, roll and dessert. Drive-through only.

n Longaberger Basket and Tool Bingo will be held May 7 at the Ararat, Va., Ruritan Building for Believers Baptist Church Building Fund. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and bingo will begin at 7 p.m. The cost is $20 for 20 games, three cards per game. The bonus game is for the chance to win the Longaberger American Craft Tradition Blanket Basket with protector, $230 value. Raffle tickets will be sold for a chance to win the new 12-piece set of Paprika Longaberger Dinnerware, $208 value, or chance for $100 in gas. Food will be available. There will also be a silent auction and door prizes.

n New Venture Baptist Church will have a golf tournament at Pine Ridge Golf Course on May 15 at 2 p.m. with rain date set for May 29. A four-man team is $40 per player and includes meal and drink. Mulligans are available for $5 each. Door prizes will be given away and there will be a prize for the longest drive. n Faith Baptist Church, South Franklin Road, will have a yard sale, bake sale and car wash on May 22 from 7 a.m. until. Hot dogs will be available at 11 a.m. for $1.25 and drinks for 75 cents. This event will be held rain or shine in the fellowship building behind the church. Proceeds will go to the Senior Adult Class projects.

n Mallalieu-Jones United Methodist Church, 231 N. South St., Mount Airy, will be holding a fish-fry fundraiser. The cost is $4 for a fish sandwich and a drink. This fundraiser will be held every Friday.

Special Services

n Dr. Doug Beacham will be the guest speaker for the 8:30 a.m., 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. worship services at Mount Airy First Pencostal Holiness Church on Sunday.

n Mount Airy Wesleyan Church, 2063 S. Main St., will celebrate its annual Friend Day on Sunday with the worship beginning at 10:30 a.m. The Southern Prophets of Stuart, Va., will be the special singers and Jeff Teague will be the speaker. n Cross Roads Baptist Church will be having revival Sunday through Wednesday at 7 p.m. On Sunday morning with J.V. Lowe; Sunday night with Lanny Atkins; Monday night with Tim Burton; Tuesday night with Victor Lyons; and Wednesday night with Travis Chipman. There will be a special singing each night.

Special Music

n Hills Grove Baptist Church, 1318 Pilot Power Dam Road, Pilot Mountain, will be having a gospel music concert on Saturday at 7 p.m. Derwin Hinson Ministries will be delivering the message. For more infomration, call (276) 755-3681.

n St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 1409 Fancy Gap Road, will be having its fourth annual hand bell choir concert on May 8 at 4 p.m. in the church sanctuary. There will be a cookout afterwards. There is no cost, but donations will be accepted to go towards purchasing chimes.

n The Mark Trammell Quartet will perform at Friendly Chapel Church, Pilot Mountain, on May 16 at 7 p.m. Admission is free. A love offering will be taken.

Upcoming Events

n The annual meeting of Flat Top Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Trust will be held at Flat Top Primitive Baptist Church on Saturday at 8 a.m. After the meeting, a clean up day will be held in the cemetery. This is an open meeting. Lawn mowers, weed eaters, rakes and any other cleaning tools will be appreciated.

n Faith Tabernacle EP Church, 559 S. Franklin Road, Mount Airy, will have a “Walk for Jesus” Parade on Sunday at 3 p.m. Participants will be meeting at BB&T Bank in the parking lot on North Main Street, Mount Airy, at 2 p.m. The ending point will be at the Mount Airy Post Office parking lot. n Salem United Methodist Church will have a Mother’s Day luncheon at noon. There will be special music and a flower for each lady. Tickets are available in advance for $10. All proceeds go to the building project. For more information, call Carol Thomas at 789-1766.

n Angel Food orders will be taken at Mount Airy Wesleyan Church from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on or before May 10. There are not any restrictions as to who can order. n Rocky Ford Christian Church, 12333 Fancy Gap Highway, Cana, Va., will have Youth Alive, a Christian Youth Rally, on May 21 from 7 to 10 p.m. with music, ministry, food and fellowship. The guest speakers will be Trey Moore, George Randall and David Johnson from Skyview Baptist Church.

n King’s Kids will have fun, learning Scripture and crafts every Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church. There will be classes for all ages, children through adults. For more information, call the church at 374-3250.

n Reformers Unanimous Addiction Recovery program will begin weekly sessions at Temple Baptist Church, 3615 Rockford St., Mount Airy. Anyone with an addiction, stubborn habit or hangup is encouraged to attend. Childcare is provided and refreshments will be served. n The First Baptist Church Feeding Friends Soup Kitchen provides a free hot meal to families and friends in need every Thursday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The church is between Elm and Galloway streets at 714 N. Main St. Parking is available behind First Baptist off Arch Street. The feeding friends dinner is served in the fellowship hall in the building closest to downtown, with signs available to guide visitors.

n A free “soup kitchen” is available on the last Thursday of each month in the Piney Grove Baptist Church fellowship hall from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come as they are with no strings attached. The church is at 278 Piney Grove Road, which can be reached at 356-4196.

n Food assistance for the hungry in the community is provided each Thursday at 8:30 a.m. by Trinity Episcopal Church.

n Meetings for those healing from a broken marriage, each Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Genesis Full Gospel Church on Sparger Road. Everyone is invited, with more information available at 351-4718.

n The Apostolic Ministerial Association is seeking new ministers of the Apostolic faith in order to encourage meetings with others that can help improve individual ministries. Those interested may call 789-1569 or 325-8081.

n Men’s interdenominational Bible study and prayer breakfast, 7 to 8 a.m. each Wednesday at Prime Sirloin Restaurant in Mount Airy. All interested men are invited.

n GriefShare, a bi-weekly video seminar featuring experts on grief-recovery topics which is geared toward grieving persons or their supporters in a group-participation environment, is held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 6:15 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 314 S. n Holy Angels Catholic Church weekly Evening Prayer Service, Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. at the church, 1208 N. Main St., Mount Airy. The service includes giving thanks for the gifts of the day and reflection; evening prayer hymns and psalms and Scripture readings; time for silent prayer and meditation; and prayers of intercession for the church, world and all those in need. Father Eric Kowalski, Holy Angels’ pastor, invites everyone to attend.

n Compassion Circle gatherings are held on the third Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at L.H. Jones Resource Center, 215 Jones School Road. n Livingwater Baptist Church, 125 Starlight Road, Mount Airy, is launching a new ministry. The King James Bible RadioNetwork is being broadcast on 89.7 in Pilot Mountain. The station will be devoted to old time gospel preaching from the King James 1611 Bible and traditional gospel singing 24 hours a day. Churches and preachers desiring broadcast time and wishing to have their announcements broadcast, contact Pastor Benny Faw at 719-6500.

n Fountain of Life will be having a clothing closet that is free to the public on Tuesdays from 1 to 3 p.m.
