A funny thing happened on the way to the Mount Airy Library today to vote. There were three workers, and ME. I like the early vote so that I can avoid the crowds. But this, I never expected. The lady gave me a sticker and asked me to wear it and tell people to get out and vote. I thought I would do better than that. Certainly this is not an indication of what the polls will look like on Tuesday.
Come on folks. Granted it is early voting. But this is the most sacred right we have. Use it and put it to good use. This is the way to have our voices heard.
Another strange thing happened. I’m not really sure which election it was, but I voted and then decided that I wanted to change my party affialiation. I didn’t want to belong to one or the other. I want to be independant. Ok, unaffiliated. Right after I voted, I sat down and filled out the paperwork. Imagine my surprise when I found out that I still belonged to a party. More like, stunned. This gave me no option on which primary I could vote in. I had in mind which to vote in when I walked in, but, that all changed. I wanted to vote against someone that I think is in this election just to climb up the food chain. I didn’t get that chance. The chance I did get was to vote for a very good friend of mine. So, all was not lost.
But seriously citizens, get out there and vote. If you don’t vote, then you don’t have any reason to complain when things don’t go your way. Voting allows you to have your cake and eat it too.
