DOBSON — During the Dobson commissioner’s meeting today at 6 p.m., a new zoning ordinance will be discussed. Interim Town Manager Paul Hensch said the ordinance, if approved, will not affect existing structures, only new construction.

“This ordinance is structured to encourage planned growth in order to continue to have Dobson be a great place to live, work and play,” Hensch said.

The Division of Community Assistance from the North Carolina Department of Commerce will present information during the meeting. According to Hensch, the DCA will provide the town with “resources and services to help them realize economic prosperity, plan for new growth and address community needs.”

An open forum will be held at the beginning of the meeting.

The town board will hold a joint meeting with the Dobson Planning Board that will considering adopting the new ordinance.

Commissioners also will consider an agreement with Hobbs Upchurch and Associates to perform a preliminary engineering report and site survey on planned upgrades to the town’s water plant.

The board will consider a resolution to amend the town’s fee schedule that would regulate computer gaming establishments.

Hensch will update the board on grant projects.

The commissioners will discuss general town business before holding a closed session to discuss economic development and contract negotiations.
