SPARGER

MOUNT AIRY — Mrs. Mary Cox Sparger, of Mount Airy, peacefully passed away Saturday, April 3, 2010, surrounded by her loving family. For the past eight years, she has resided at Creekside Terrace Independent Living in Winston-Salem, near her daughters. Mrs. Sparger was born May 13, 1918, in Keystone, W. Va., the daughter of the late Charles Edmund and Annie Monday Cox. She was happily married for 58 years to Ed Sparger of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ed; her brothers, James and Edmund; her sister, Janis; and her sister-in-law, Shirley Cox. Mrs. Sparger was a devoted wife and mother. She was active in the community and in the Central United Methodist Church, where she was a life long member. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Ben Plitt and Janis and John Garner all of Clemmons; four grandchildren, Bradley Garner, Juli Garner-Smith and her husband Rodney, Joseph Plitt and his spouse Chin Chin, all of Winston-Salem and Randy Plitt of Kingsport, Tenn; two great-grandchildren, Gabe and Lucas and a third great-grandchild expected in October; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack Cox of Mount Airy, Bill and Mona Cox of Sarasota, Fla., and Inez Cox of Mount Airy; and many beloved nieces and nephews. A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at 2 p.m., at Central United Methodist Church in Mount Airy with the Rev. John Ferree officiating. The family will receive friends in the Lady’s Parlor of the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.
