This weekend brides with friends and mothers in tow will descend upon downtown businesses to see what’s new for this year.

The Downtown Business Association is hosting the second annual event which will begin and end at 308 Bistro in the Old North State Winery building from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

A bridal fashion show and grand prize give-away will begin at 3:30 p.m. Twyla Sickmiller, owner of the 308 Bistro, will be passing around free hors d’oeuvres.

There is no admission for the event and brides are urged to pre-register online because their names will be entered twice in the grand prize drawing.

Kelly Epperson with WPAQ will be broadcasting the bridal fashion show live.

“We look forward to seeing brides find out that they can have their complete wedding taken care of in downtown Mount Airy,” said Stefanie Easter, owner of Video Works of N.C. “Our grand prize is growing daily.”

Country singer Sean Mettler will be playing from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Bistro. Participating downtown businesses will be decorating their storefronts especially for the event.

Commercials advertising the event can be seen on the TV show “Say Yes to the Dress” on The Learning Channel, according to Easter.

The grand prize will include six free tuxedo rentals from F. Rees; a one-camera video production, wedding only valued at $900 from Video Works of N.C., Inc.; a $50 gift certificate from Creative Designs Flowers and Gifts; a $50 gift certificate from High Cotton Interiors; a $20 gift certificate from Mayberry Consignment; a cake topper from Pioneer Printing; gifts from Mary Kay cosmetics; a ring bearer pillow for a dog from Froo Froo Pet Boutique; a hand bag from The Addition; a $50 gift card from F. Rees Ladies; gift certificates from the Candle Station; Talley’s Custom Frame & Gallery Sunset Slushees; Hair World and I style; salad servers from Scarlet Begonias; lunch for two from Barney’s; a free wedding dress preservation valued at $175 from Hutchens Cleaners; and a one-night free stay including a full breakfast from Rockford Inn Bed and Breakfast.
