DOBSON — The Dobson Board of Commissioners have a full session planned for its meeting this Thursday at 6 p.m. at town hall.
A public forum is slated for the meeting this month. That will be followed by a presentation given about downtown development by Jay Tomlinson of the College of Design with N.C. State University.
Ed Shelton, chairman of the Dobson Tourism Development Authority, will give a presentation about the efforts of the TDA.
Michael Frazier, the director of public works with the town, will be honored during the meeting for his efforts to go above and beyond this winter when many of the town’s water pipes burst due to freezing temperatures.
The board will consider budget amendments for fiscal year 2009-10. The board also will consider recreation funding requests.
Commissioners will consider an amendment to the town Code of Ordinances for vehicle towing and impound policy. The board also will consider an amendment to the Code of Ordinances eliminating the line, “The violation of any provision of this chapter shall also subject the violator to a civil penalty of $25 per call,” from Section 4-14.
The board will consider making a recommendation to the Surry County Board of Commissioners on the appointment of an ETJ member to the town planning board.
Paul Hensch, acting town manager, will give grant updates to the board and commissioners will discuss general town business.
A report will be given by Fire Chief Ricky Draughn on fire department policy and operations.
A discussion of the commissioner’s water bills will be conducted, following accusations from a former town employee of abuse by commissioners.
A closed session to discuss personnel will be held at the end of the meeting.
