Mount Airy police are investigating break-ins of six storage units at a local business which resulted in hundreds of dollars in damage and the possible theft of property.

The crimes were discovered Sunday and Monday at Sheets Warehousing & Storage on Hickory Street, according to police reports.

Major damage occurred to units rented by Hospital Pharmacy, Robert Martin Hiatt Jr. of Greenhill Road and Teresa Rene Gossett, a Fayetteville resident.

In those cases, locking mechanisms and locks were removed from the doors of the storage spaces, with the damage estimated at $600 in each of the three.

Locks also were cut off the doors to storage units rented by Rich Kunkel of Saddle Creek Way, S&D Coffee and Moody Funeral Services Inc., with $150 in damage occurring among them.

At last report, determinations were still under way to pinpoint what property might have been stolen during the break-ins, according to police.
