ELKIN — Crossroads Behavioral Healthcare Area Director and CEO David R. Swann announced the appointment of Harold Walker Elliott, MD as medical director.

“We are excited to welcome Dr. Elliott to the Crossroads organization to provide medical oversight, utilization and management reviews of our publicly-funded mental health services for the citizens of Iredell, Surry and Yadkin counties,” said Swann in making the announcement.

Elliott, a graduate of Davidson College, earned his medical degree from Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, S.C., and completed his postdoctoral training in psychiatry at UNC Hospitals, University of North Carolina Department of Psychiatry. He holds specialty certification in Psychosomatic Medicine and is a diplomat with the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the National Board of Medical Examiners.

Elliott serves as assistant professor of Psychiatry at Wake Forest University School of Medicine and is the director of the Psychiatry Resident Education program. He also serves as the attending psychiatrist and site supervisor at Wake Forest University Student Health Center and consulting psychiatrist for Davidson College Student Health Center.

“Dr. Elliott’s experience with community mental health will be a strong asset as Crossroads continues to develop programs and strengthen provider network systems to meet the increasing demands for behavioral healthcare in our three-county area,” noted Swann.

Crossroads Behavioral Healthcare is the local managing entity for publicly-funded mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance abuse services in Iredell, Surry and Yadkin counties. Crossroads is responsible for the management and oversight of the public system of behavioral healthcare at the community level. Crossroads plans, develops, implements, and monitors services to ensure that consumers in our communities have access to quality, appropriate and timely care.
