The students at Mount Airy High Schools career and technical education classes.

The teens in these classes have used the skills they are learning to build corn hole games, and then selling those games, using the money to help out a fellow student whose parent is suffering from cancer.

In taking on this project, these students are showing they understand what it means to be a member of a community — using their skills to help those in need.

*****

To the United Fund board of directors for having the foresight to fund the 2-1-1- system, even without county support. The directors clearly recognize the great need for such a service in the community.

*****

To the Surry Arts Council for offering scholarships to area students and artists who are pursuing degree work or continuing education in the arts.

Sometimes pursuing the arts, as a career or avocationally, can be a lonely endeavor, one which is sometimes ignored by many segments of society. The Council shows its support, both financially and otherwise, by offering these important scholarships.
