The Surry Arts Council and the director of “The Fantasticks” are looking for actors. “The Fantasticks” is a 1960 Broadway hit that holds the record for the world’s longest running musical.

It tells the allegorical tale of two fathers who build a wall between their houses to make sure their children will fall in love, since children always do what their parents forbid. But after the children fall in love, they discover their fathers’ plot and decide to go their separate ways instead. After experiencing the world and all it has to offer, the couple eventually returns to each other.

Roles available in the musical include five men, one girl, one boy and one mime. Auditions will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday in the Andy Griffith Playhouse.

Actors only need to attend one day of auditions, but be prepared to sing. There also are opportunities for those interested in doing behind-the-scenes work. “The Fantasticks” will take the stage the weekend of May 7-9.

Contact the Surry Arts Council at 786-7998 or email arts@surryarts.org for more information.
