LOUISBURG, Kan. — Phil Tesh, 67, who was born to Bruce and Flora Lee Payne Tesh of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Mount Airy, died from lung cancer at his home in Louisburg. After high school in Winston-Salem, Phil entered basic training with the Marine Corps at Parris Island, S.C. He was a decorated Marine during his 20-year career and served tours of duty at El Toro, Calif., Cherry Point, Iwakuni, Japan, Okinawa, Vietnam and as a drill instructor at MCRD, San Diego, Calif. He was an AFGE Union officer for several years while working for the Navy in ordnance supply. He retired in 2006 and moved from Chula Vista, Calif., to Louisburg, where he was active in the Louisburg Lions Club and conducted a successful antique business specializing in military memorabilia. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and willingness to help his friends and community. Phil is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Louisburg; son, David Tappan and wife Jackie of Louisburg; daughter, Blythe Bayliff and husband Glen of Poway, Calif.; grandchildren, Carson and Gabrielle Tappan; sister, Linda Tesh Klane of Woodland Hills, Calif.; and many nephews, nieces and cousins. He was especially close to cousins, Pat Tesh of Clemmons, N.C., and Craig and Jane Tesh of Mount Airy. Memorial services will be March 6, 2010, at Penwell-Gabel Louisburg Chapel. Phil’s ashes will be interred at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego.
