STUART, Va. — A Patrick County woman received severe injuries in a stabbing this week which led to the jailing of another woman on a felony offense.
Sheila Nunn Reece, 51, of Claudville, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of malicious wounding, according to Patrick Sheriff Dan Smith, who announced that development on Friday.
Reece is accused of stabbing Elizabeth Van Dyke multiple times. Van Dyke, 25, also lives in Claudville and is a former resident of Mount Airy. The injured woman was transported to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem for treatment, and was released Thursday.
An investigation led by Lt. Katherine Layman showed that Van Dyke and Reece, who are acquaintances, became involved in a physical altercation while inside a van on Ararat Highway in Claudville.
After the assault, the victim managed to find help at a nearby residence, where deputies and emergency-response personnel found her, according to the sheriff.
Reece was being held under a $10,000 secured bond at last report. The penalty for malicious wounding includes a possible prison sentence of 20 years, under Virginia law.
