A 24-year-old man was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after an ATV accident on Tuesday night.

The incident took place close to 8:30 p.m. on Dan Calloway Road in the Pine Ridge community. The victim was alone when the accident occurred, according to Danny Lineberry, medical captain of Pine Ridge Volunteer Fire Department. Lineberry was not sure if the victim was thrown off of the vehicle or if it overturned, but the man was treated for life-threatening injuries.

John Shelton, Surry County emergency services director, said the man was taken to the trauma center at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center by Surry County EMS in critical condition.

Pine Ridge Volunteer Fire Department was assisted by the Mount Airy Rescue Squad and Surry EMS at the scene of the accident.

Due to patient privacy laws, the name of the victim and his current status were not available.
