- Ronald Harrison Joyce, 37, of 146 Foxcroft Drive, was cited Tuesday for allegedly allowing a dog to run at large. Two canines owned by Joyce allegedly left his premises and attacked a dog owned by another man in the area, according to police records. Joyce is scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on March 31.
- A break-in of a motor vehicle was discovered Saturday at the Franklin Street residence of Brianna Nicole Simmons which netted the theft of money and other property. Some type of tool was used to push down the passenger window of a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am to gain entry and Simmons’ Liz Claiborne pocketbook, $250 in cash, Bank of America checks and other property were stolen during the crime.
- A yellow Cub Cadet riding mower valued at nearly $2,900 was reported stolen Saturday from the home of Jerry Bradley Snider on Linville Road, where it was removed from an unsecured building. The case remains open for further investigation.
- Robin Smith Thomas of Sherry Drive told police last Thursday that she was the victim of a larceny at Wal-Mart. Thomas said she lost possession of a bank envelope containing $417 between the time she left her vehicle and approached a checkout counter at the store, a 70-minute interval. The case remains open for investigation.
- Property damage also occurred Thursday at Wal-Mart, where someone dispensed hand soap on various clothing and office items, with the total damage estimated at $560. The case remains open for further investigation.
- City police also are investigating a financial transaction card fraud in which a city man was victimized. Roger Dale Wallace of West Pine Street told police on Feb. 3 that someone had used his credit/debit card to obtain funds without his authorization from a Centura Bank ATM at Granite Town Centre on South Andy Griffith Parkway. The crime actually occurred in October, with the amount of the loss not listed.
- Bobby Darrell Ladd, 33, of 1025 Whispering Oaks Drive, Pilot Mountain, was jailed on multiple felony charges on Feb. 3. Ladd, who was a passenger in a vehicle involved in a traffic stop, was found to have outstanding warrants against him for charges issued in late January, including breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering and possession of stolen property — all felonies. Ladd was confined in the Surry County Jail in lieu of a $2,000 secured bond and is scheduled to be in District Court on March 17.
Ladd also is facing a charge of injury to personal property and multiple violations of communicating threats which were filed earlier this month, with another $1,000 bond and a March 5 court date listed in reference to those alleged offenses.
- A break-in of a motor vehicle was reported on Feb. 3 in which golf clubs, a bag and tools were taken from a 1994 Ford Explorer owned by Jerry Humphreys of West End Drive. The loss was put at $2,510. A rear window of the Explorer was broken to gain entry while the vehicle was parked at a business on West Lebanon Street, which caused several hundred dollars in damage. The case remains open for investigation.
- Dennis Edward Lawson Jr., 42, of 333 Lynnewood Drive, was charged with damage to property on Feb. 2 after an incident in the emergency room parking lot at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Lawson is accused of hitting the left-rear window of a 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe owned by Karen Bunn Pell of Hillsville, Va., with his fist, causing damage estimated at $500. He is scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on March 30.
- James Michael McCreary of Lowgap reported on Feb. 2 that his Samsung touch-screen cell phone and cigarettes were stolen that day from Pro Health Fitness on North Pointe Boulevard while he was playing basketball there. The missing property was valued at more than $300, with no suspects identified at last report.
- A battery valued at $125 was reported stolen on Feb. 2 from a Ford van owned by Yadkin Valley Economic Development District Inc., while it was parked at a YVEDDI location on Jones School Road. The case remains open for further investigation.
- An unlawful burning occurred on Feb. 1 at Tractor Supply on Rockford Street, where a dumpster was set on fire. The incident, which the Mount Airy Fire Department responded to, involved a $4,000 loss. The case remains open for further investigation.
- Three vehicular break-ins were discovered on Willow Street on Feb. 1. Included were a 1995 Ford Taurus owned by James William Hudson and a 1980s-model Mazda 323 belonging to Thomas George Haynes. Both vehicles were unlocked and had their contents rummaged through, but nothing was reported missing. The owner’s manual was taken from the unlocked vehicle of another resident of the street, Janis Irene Chandler, which later was recovered. Three youths have been charged with a series of break-ins occurring in the Willow Street area around the same time, but police records indicate that these three cases were still under investigation at last report.
- Two other auto break-ins were reported on Churchill Lane on Feb. 1, one in which a Poulan chainsaw and tools were taken from a vehicle owned by Russell Enrique Spivey. No values were given for the property, which was listed as recovered. Also, an unlocked 2005 Ford Escape owned by Laura Jane Vandecasteele of Churchill Lane was entered and rummaged through; both incidents were listed as open for further investigation at last report.
- Joseph Cornell Green, 35, of 445 Greentown Road, was arrested on a probation violation and other offenses on Jan. 31 after being located at a residence on William Penn Street, where police said he was hiding in a closet. In addition to the probation matter, for which he was sought by state correctional officials, Green was served with outstanding warrants issued last month on charges of assault on a female, assault with a deadly weapon and hit and run. He was jailed without privilege of bond, arrest records show.
- The larceny of a firearm was reported on Jan. 31 by Anthony Lynn Cannon, a resident of Troutman. Cannon said the Beretta 950 handgun and holster, valued altogether at $120, are believed to have been stolen on Jan. 17 from a duffle bag at a residence on Newsome Street. A possible suspect was identified, but the case remained open for investigation at last report.
- Violations of soliciting were issued against two men on Jan. 29 at Forrest Oaks Shopping Center. Arrest records indicate that Larry Joe Cowart, 50, of 125 Apex Lane, and Michael Lynn Johnson, 41, of 189 Indian Trail, had been verbally warned against soliciting, which is in violation of a city ordinance. Each of the men was held in the Surry County Jail under a $1,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in District Court on April 20. They also have been banned from the shopping center.
- James Michael Hale, 24, of 3163 Pine Ridge Road, turned himself in at the police station on Jan. 29 on a warrant for attempted larceny. Hale is free on a written promise to appear in Surry District Court on Feb. 25. Other details regarding the alleged violation were not listed.
- A four-wheeler owned by Shianna Jane Bowling of Gemstone Lane was reported stolen on Jan. 28. The Suzuki LTF 400 F, valued at $4,392, was taken from the back yard of Bowling’s home. The case remains open for further investigation.
- Veronica Denise Webster, 28, of 119 Oakwood Drive, was arrested for an alleged probation violation on Jan. 28 after police investigated a larceny at Burke’s Outlet in Forrest Oaks Shopping Center. Webster is said to have taken items valued at $38 from the store, and was found to be wanted by state correctional officials on the probation matter during a routine check by police. In addition to larceny, Webster is accused of resisting a public officer for allegedly providing a false name during her arrest. She was confined in the county jail under a $2,000 secured bond and is scheduled to be in Surry District Court on April 20.
