During the second day of the filing period for county and state offices, three new candidates filed at the Surry County Board of Elections office.

As expected, Kate Appler, a Democrat, filed to run for the Mount Airy district seat of the Surry County Board of Commissioners. Last week Appler announced her intentions to run for this office. Appler now serves on the Mount Airy Board of Education.

Clark Goings filed for the district 5 seat of the Surry County Board of Education, a position which he now holds. Goings was nominated two weeks ago to fill the seat of deceased board member Jeff Hall. Goings will sit on the board until the May election. The winner of the election will assume the seat in July and serve for the remaining two years of the term.

Sue Stone filed for re-election to her district 2 seat on the Surry County Board of Education.

On Monday, Darrell McCormick, a Republican, filed in Yadkin County to run for re-election to the 92nd district seat of the North Carolina House of Representatives. McCormick is completing his first term as representative.

Andy Cromer filed on Monday to run for re-election. He is now the Superior Court Judge for district 17-B.

William Kennedy, a Democrat, filed to run against Virginia Foxx in the race for the U.S. House of Representatives district 5 seat. As of yesterday at 5 p.m., the state board of elections Web site had not yet listed that Foxx had filed for office. Foxx’s office sent out a press release on Monday saying that she had filed.

Three candidates have already filed to run for the U.S. Senate seat now held by Richard Burr. They are: Marcus Williams, Democrat; Edward Burks, Republican; and Michael Beitler, Libertarian.
