The North Surry girls took out visiting North Stokes Thursday night 61-46 behind 17 points and 10 rebounds from Courtney Campbell.

The Greyhounds used defensive pressure to pick up 10 first-half steals, which set up a 34-13 halftime lead.

Nicole Rumplasch had 12 points and seven rebounds while North’s Morgan Midkiff had a strong all around night to finish with eight points, six assists and five steals.

Jodie Lemons led North Stokes with a game-high 24 points in the loss.

With the win, North Surry improves to 12-6 overall and 8-4 in Northwest 1A/2A Conference play.

The Greyhounds are on top of the 2A standings and are in a tie with East Surry for third place overall in the conference.

North is scheduled to travel to South Stokes Tuesday, Winston-Salem Prep Thursday and to host West Stokes next Saturday.

Greyhounds take out West Stokes

North Surry took down West Stokes 48-22 in wrestling action Thursday to finish its conference season with a perfect 7-0 record.

Because of the recent inclement weather, the Northwest 1A/2A Conference tournament meet scheduled for Feb. 6 at South Stokes was canceled.

But area teams won’t be resting as the NCHSAA team dual competition begins Tuesday.

The Greyhounds will receive the conference’s one automatic 2A bid and will face Thomasville in the opening round Tuesday. Should the Greyhounds advance they will face the winner of the Bandys-Trinity matchup.

Surry Central is expected to get one of two western region 2A wildcard berths, with the 32-team bracket scheduled to be announced today.

Should Central take the wildcard spot they would more than likely face off with defending western regional champion Newton Conover in the first round.

The regional semifinals and finals are scheduled for Thursday with the western championship scheduled for next Saturday.
