DOBSON — The Surry County Tourism Development Authority is hoping to use another area tradition to draw visitors to the county.
The group will begin what it hopes will become the annual Surry Old Time Fiddlers Convention, to be held at Surry Community College to showcase the unique sounds of old-time music found in this region. The convention will showcase individual musicians and bands who will compete for large cash prizes during a two-day period. The college, along with the Yadkin Valley Chamber of Commerce, are also sponsoring the gathering.
The event will be held at Surry Community College on March 26 at 7 p.m. There will be a $5 admission fee that covers a square dance and cake walk. On March 27 at 11 a.m., admission is free and food will be available at the Knight’s Grill.
