Jan. 23 and 24

n The Mount Airy Museum of Regional History will present a three-day event titled “White Liquor and Dirt Tracks: the Origins of NASCAR.” Events will feature a vintage race car show, racing memorabilia and souvenir vendors, autograph sessions with drivers past and present, a panel discussion on early racing and a downtown cruise-in. Sharyn McCrumb, racing author, will speak about her NASCAR series of books. There will be two screenings of the film “Thunder Road,” a concert by Nashville recording artist Matt Dylan, and a new temporary racing exhibit will open. n “All the World’s a Stage: The Life, Times, and Genius of William Shakespeare” will take place at 7 p.m. at the Downtown Cinema Theatre. Tickets are $5 general admission or $3 for students. For more information, contact the Surry Arts Council at 786-7998.

Jan. 28

n The Community book club will meet at 7 p.m. at the Mount Airy Public Library.

n The Cooperative Extension Centers in Surry, Forsyth, Stokes and Yadkin counties will be hosting a production meeting for all soybean, corn and wheat producers. The meeting will be held at 8 a.m. at the Forbush Fire Department near the Old U.S. 421 and Baltimore Road intersection in Yadkin County. Topics of discussion will be small grain nitrogen management, soybean avall test data, weed resistance managment, soysoap, soybean variety selection, group IV population test data and yield enhancements test data. One hour of pesticide credit has been applied for in categories NODX. Registration is required before Jan. 22. For more information and to register, call 401-8025.
