GARNER — William Paul Davis, 84, moved to Heaven on Jan. 17, 2010, from Duke Raleigh Hospital. He was born on July 20, 1925, in Surry County to William Albert Davis and Lottie Wolfe Davis. Paul was a WWII veteran who served in the 42nd Rainbow Division of the U.S. Army. He was steadfast in serving the Lord in all aspects of his life. He was a tireless worker in his church and sang with several gospel groups including the Gospel Ambassadors. He came to Raleigh in 1956 as part owner of Davis Wolfe, Inc. Later, he worked as an agent for Metropolitan Life and Pilot Life insurance companies. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Fairview Baptist Church, Dobson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Paul is survived by Juanita Wilmoth Davis, his loving wife of 63 years; his daughter, Linda Davis Langdon and husband Larry of Garner; his son, Steve Davis and wife Jenene of Clayton; five grandchildren who felt the sun rose and set with their granddad, Jenifer Langdon, Bryan Davis and wife Amanda, Lori Langdon, Justin Davis and wife Casey and Andrew Pierce and wife Allie; his brother, Joe Davis of Winston-Salem; his sisters, Beulah Atkins of Dobson, Effie Anthony of Newland, Lou McCormick of Rockford and Nell Lowe and husband Joe of Dobson; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, a brother, Wade Davis, preceded him in death. Memorials may be made to Fairview Baptist Church, 7659 N.C. Hwy. 268, Dobson, NC 27017. Mr. Davis will lie in state at Fairview Baptist Church on Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service. Arrangements are by Strickland Funeral Home, Wendell.
