The Greyhounds defeated South Stokes (69-6), North Forsyth (77-6), Grimsley (66-14) and R.J. Reynolds (60-15) to finish the day undefeated.
North Surry wrestling coach Eric Jessup said it was difficult finding the energy to perform after such a hard match against a tough Surry Central team.
“I won’t tell you a fib, it was real tough,” Jessup said. “Coming off that emotional win last night and staying late and pulling out of the parking lot at 6:30 a.m. this morning, making weight and going and wrestling our competition, it was rough. But I felt like our kids rose to it. They were ready and looked forward to it.”
North Surry dominated the middle weight classes, with Levi Taylor (125 pounds), Austin Collins (130 pounds), Chris Murray (135 pounds), Josh Thomas (140 pounds), Logan Younger (152 pounds), Logan Maines (171 pounds) and Zach Creed (189 pounds) all finishing the day undefeated.
North’s Colby Bowman, the top ranked 103-pound wrestler in North Carolina, lost his final match of the day to a R.J. Reynolds opponent. Bowman wrestled at 119 pound, two weight classes above his actual weight, all day.
Jessup said the senior wanted a challenge.
“He just told me he wanted a tough match,” Jessup said. “He said to me, ‘I want the best competition I can get,’ so I said ‘OK.’”
It was just Bowman’s second loss of the season.
