DOBSON — Surry Central had little trouble handling visiting North Wilkes Wednesday, rolling over the Vikings, 52-20.

The Golden Eagles were down 10-9 after the first quarter, but went on to outscore North Wilkes 28-8 in the second and third quarters.

Central took a 20 point lead in the third quarter on a Maddie White transition layup but North Wilkes cut back into the lead shortly after. Central didn’t relent however, finishing the game on a 19-7 run.

Central had their hands in passing lanes all night, forcing numerous North Wilkes turnovers and then successfully converting on the other end.

Golden Eagles coach Mandy Holt said she thought her team played with purpose and intensity after dropping games she said the Eagles should have won last week.

“I think we did play well defensively and I think we really got after it,” Holt said. “We had been talking about getting back on track because I feel like we gave away a few games last week and part of that was defense. We just really got back in serious mode, making sure we got the job done, taking nothing for granted. We’ve got to have very steal, every rebound, we’ve got to have everything. That’s the mentality we are supposed to play every game with.”

Emily Marshall led the Eagles with 14 points, followed by White with 12 and Brittany Tolber with eight. No player reached double figures for North Wilkes.

Central will travel to Winston-Salem Prep Friday.
