The Surry girls won going away 57-24 behind a strong defensive performance early which allowed it to jump out to a 35-9 halftime lead.
Hannah Tompkins and Rebekah Sikes each had 15 points for coach John Peters’ team, who said his team used their experience and strength to get the better of their opponents.
Tompkins added five steals while Sikes had six rebounds and three steals.
In the boy’s game, Surry found itself on the opposite end of a early run, as the Runnin’ Pats fell behind 21-6 in the first quarter and never recovered.
Surry coach Lin Hamilton said Forsyth’s pressure and bigman Cliff Kaiser were too much for his team. The Runnin’ Patriots had 11 first quarter turnovers.
“They played a half court trap and we just could not handle it,” Hamilton said. “They put too much pressure on the ball. We settled down in the second quarter and then they fed their big man Kaiser.”
Luke Hamilton led Surry with 21 points in the loss.
Both teams will play Friday at home against Sheets Memorial Christian School.
