New Year’s Eve celebrations being held

For people wanting to something to do on New Year’s Eve, several events are taking place throughout the area.

Here is a sampling of local happenings:

Those interested in music may want to attend the event to be held at the Elk’s Lodge off of Highway 52. The festivities will begin at 7 p.m. with a hospitality hour, and the Showtime Band will perform from 8 p.m. to midnight. Hors d’oeuvres will be served during the hospitality hour, champagne will be served at midnight, and breakfast will begin 15 minutes after midnight. The cost at the door is $30. The ticket cost is $25 if purchased by Thursday at 2 p.m. For more information, call the lodge at 786-2061.

At B52’s-America’s Favorite Bar and Grill, two bands will be performing beginning around 8 p.m. Five 2 One and Catfish Cherry will both perform. The cover charge is $15, which includes a champagne toast and party favors. For more information, call the bar at 719-2411.

308 Bistro will have special seatings at 6 p.m., 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. for dinner for two. The price is $60, which includes an appetizer, dinner and a bottle of wine. Dinner will include prime rib, crab cakes, a pasta buffet and other entrees, according to owner Twyla Sickmiller. Janus 4-14 will be entertaining for the evening. Reservations are required and the 8 p.m. seating is already filled. Call 786-8600 for reservations or more information.

The Lambsburg Ruritan Club in Lambsburg, Va., will ring in 2010 with a dance featuring the band “Sounds Now and Then” from 9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Concessions will be sold from 9 p.m. to midnight with breakfast being served at midnight. Admission is $6 for adults. Children 12 and under are free.

Skating enthusiasts or families looking for something new to do can spend their New Year’s Eve at Starlite Skate Center. The center will host a New Year’s Eve party from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m., complete with a balloon drop at midnight.

Many churches host watch night services as a New Year’s Eve alternative. One such church is Grace Moravian Church, which will be holding its annual Watch Night service on Dec. 31 starting at 11:30 p.m. People will ring in the New Year with prayer and reflection.
