WESTFIELD — A Mount Airy teen is still in the intensive care unit after crashing his car into a tree on Tuesday.

William Levi Hall, 18, of 4489 Westfield Road, Mount Airy, wrecked his red Chevrolet Cobalt on Westfield Road at 3:02 p.m. on Tuesday. The wreck took place near Woodville Baptist Church, just a few miles away from Hall’s home.

As of yesterday afternoon, Hall was still in the intensive care unit at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He was in critical condition when he entered the hospital on Tuesday.

Trooper Rex Carter with North Carolina Highway Patrol said the teen was exceeding the speed limit on Westfield Road when he went over the right shoulder then over-corrected, crossing the center line and crashing into a tree.

Carter said Hall’s car bounced off of the tree, but Hall was trapped inside. After rescue workers used the Jaws of Life to cut Hall out, he was driven to Baptist by Surry County EMS in critical condition from multiple injuries including fractures to the arms and legs.

Carter is still investigating the crash. The trooper said he is not yet certain how fast Hall was driving but that he could tell from the impact on the car that Hall had been speeding.

Emergency agencies responding included Westfield Volunteer Fire Department and Mount Airy and Pilot Mountain rescue squads.
